ATLANTIC CITY, April 5 Delivering a serious blow to Merck, a New Jersey jury found late this afternoon that the company had not properly warned patients of the dangers of its arthritis drug Vioxx and awarded $4.5 million in damages to Irma and John McDarby, a 77-year-old man who had a heart attack in 2004 after taking Vioxx for four years.
